What is Stevia?
Stevia or Stevia rebaudiana, which the CheeniKum™ natural sweetener originates from, is a plant belonging to the chrysanthemum family and is native to Paraguay, Latin America. The Stevia plant and its leaves are similar in size and shape to a Tulsi plant.

Where and in what form is the sweetener from Stevia consumed around the world?

Stevia has been used for centuries in South America and for decades in Asia. In South America, the native people have used the Stevia herb for over 1500 years as a sweetener and for medicinal purposes. Since the 1970's, sweetner derived from Stevia has been used in Japan as the main alternative to sugar and artificial sweetener products which are banned), in diet soda, gum and other food and beverages. In addition, Stevia, or substances derived from stevia, are used widely around the world in countries including Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Paraguay, Brazil and Uruguay.

What makes Stevia leaves sweet?
Leaves of Stevia contain key compounds called steviol glycosides. These glycosides are of four types, namely Stevioside, Rebaudioside A, Rebaudioside C and Dulcoside. Sweetness characteristics are attributed to Stevioside and Rebaudioside A, while the other compounds impart a bitter or liqourice aftertaste to the leave. Stevioside and Rebaudioside A compounds in pure form are about 150 to 300 times sweeter than sugar.

What is a glycemic index rating?

Will CheeniKum™ harm my teeth?
